Dr. Suzuki's Current Green talk

By September 15, 2008

Further to our post on David Suzuki's comments about the Green Party, we should have known that the Doc himself would be the best person to clear up the controversy - which he did, on a segment titled "Who's Afraid of Elizabeth May?" on CBC's The Current today (Monday, September 15). Here's what Dr. Suzuki told Anna Maria Tremonti about Elizabeth May and her party (although the CBC did bleep the cussword!):

"I think she will be a formidable candidate. I mean, she is very, very well versed in the area of the environment, but of course Greens go far beyond that. They're talking about social issues and international issues. You see, I've told Elizabeth this: I look forward to the day when there is no Green Party; there's no need for it. Because, to me, being green should be something all sectors of society should be concerned with. It shouldn't be a political football. All politicians know this is an issue that is not going to go away. Even with rising gas prices and concerns about a recession, the public is concerned about the environment and they want that dealt with in a serious way. So that means, both on the left and the right of the classic political spectrum, they ought to be shitting bricks."
