This site is intended to help make the environment a priority in the current federal election so that our next government, regardless of which party wins, will work toward solutions.
It is not intended to be a place for supporters of individual political parties to promote those parties.
Keep it fun, keep it lively, but keep it about the issues rather than the parties. Posts that are overly partisan will be removed. Also: don't be a jerk! Let's be nice to each other and avoid abusive language.
NOW, with all that out of the way I invite you to dive on in. The water's warm!
A few options to keep in touch with the work of the Foundation and our future projects.
- visit DavidSuzuki.org
- Read the blog
- Monitor our media releases
- Ponder David Suzuki's weekly Science Matters column
Hey, I really enjoyed this blog! I've learned so much on here. This is a great way to pool resources. Is there going to be a permanent blog hosted by the David Suzuki Foundation OR do people know of similar blogs they could direct me to?
charging people for use of local landfills has resulted in garbage being dumped everywhere.
My relative from Europe visited Canada in the 70's and at that time was impressed by how clean and organized our cities and roads were. He visited again earlier this year and was shocked to see how much garbage there is along the sides of our highways, in ditches and in our industrial parking lots.
Last year, I travelled and visited 22 countries around the world, from South and Central America to Europe. Toronto and southern Ontario are definitely in the top 5 dirtiest places that I ...
Read More »I've been watching the news these last few days after the election and they have been saying the same thing over and over again: the carbon tax is a tough sell and it cost Dion the election. This comment is disturbing because it suggests that any political leader who wants the job ought to avoid promising meaningful change in our greenhouse gas emissions. As a result, we might never see any progress on our climate change problem inCanada. The question remains, is this analysis...

The Canadian national animal should be changed from the beaver to the ostrich. Canadians elected a party that denies global warming so they too could pretend it presents no danger.
Dr. Suzuki's article in common Grond was a major disappointment
I just read Dr. Suzuki's article in Common Ground on the environment and the elections. People look to him for leadership and he refused to give it. He refused to give any information to help people decide, or to rank the parties by how effective their plans were. If anything, he made the Conservatives sound like the best possible choice. That was not being fair. That was cowardly and dishonest.
I'm off to vote in 3 hours and I still don't get it.
I must be dense. I've read almost everything I can get my hands on around the various "solutions" our politicians have to the impact we humans are having on the environment, and I just don't get it.
I've come to the conclusion that in order to stop global warming, we are going to have to stop burning fossil fuels.....not slow down, reduce, conserve etc. .....STOP. In order to stop burning fossil fuels we are going to have to come up with alternative energy sources. What we have...
Read More »I heard Gerard Kennedy of the Liberals say that Dr. Suzuki favoured a carbon tax over cap and trade.
I wonder what the advantages of carbon tax are to make him prefer that option.
The key factor that has me at this point supporting cap and trade in that a carbon tax would not actually reduce CO2 until the tax reached $200 a tonne (or whatever level that make cleaning up more economic that polluting). It seems to me most companies will just pay the tax rather that clean up. The idea is to...
Read More »Hi, I note that people are having a difficult time understanding the carbon tax, cap and trade, green shift ideas. Not just her on this website but also on CBC Radio talk shows and, I'm sure, during the debate, which did not allow time for elaboration. Regardless of how you intend to vote, check out the Green Party website under Platform.
As I peruse the many articles in this blog and take a summary of everyone's opinion regarding our current "Democratic" system and how some "independent" webhosts and organizations have designed a system to "make it easy" to use your vote best, I find myself appalled.
You have the right to choose who you vote for. You have the right to vote for the party you wish to see gain seats. I personally, do not see the logic in voting for a party I do not believe in simply because they aren't...
