Democracy is still a rare privilege in this world - something we should value and not take for granted. Make sure you're counted in - get to your polling station today.
Where?
Enter your postal code at Elections Canada. They also give a lot of other ways to find your riding and polling station.
When?
Polling station hours are staggered, so make sure you know when yours is open:
Polls open and close in local time | |
Newfoundland Time | 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. |
Atlantic Time | 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. |
Eastern Time | 9:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. |
Central Time* | 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. |
Mountain Time* | 7:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. |
Pacific Time | 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. |
What do I need to take with me?
It will be faster if you have your voting card but not to worry if you don't. Just make sure you have:
- One piece of photo ID issued by the government of a government agency (eg driver's license, Ontario health card, or provincial/territorial Identification Card).
OR
- Two original pieces of identification, including one that has your complete address (eg health or library card with a credit card statement or utility bill).
OR
- Swear and oath and be vouched for by an elector (neighbour, roommate, relative) whose name is on the electors list in the same polling division and who has an acceptable piece of ID. (An elector cannot vouch for more than one person.)
But I have to work!
No problem. The Canada Elections Act requires all employers to allow staff three consecutive hours to vote.
Help others who need it.
Is there someone you know that might need help or encouragement to get their vote in? Every Canadian counts. Check with parents, siblings, adult children (the participation rate for youth is less than 40 per cent!), friends and neighbours and do what you can to assist them to the polls.
