It really is the economy then!

By September 30, 2008

Interesting to see the reaction of politicians south of the border to the Wall Street crisis - and yes, I do think we could expect similar reactions from our politicians.

So, let's see - in response to an entirely preventable crisis, one that was caused in large part by the actions of the people in power as well as the greed that fuels a system in which markets rule, the politicians get together to discuss immediately throwing $700 BILLION of taxpayers' money into the pot - that on top of $900 BILLION already approved. Sure, Congress turned down the latest bailout request, but you can be sure it will be pushed through one way or the other. (And it's unlikely that it will do anything to help all the common folk who lost their homes through foreclosure during the crisis!)

Can you imagine if the politicians took global warming as seriously? Or any of the many other environmental problems we are facing? But that's stuff they can ignore for their four- or five-year terms of office. For now, anyway. But by the time they finally react, it just might be too late.
